Welcome to Morgantown, WV!
This summer YouthWorks is launching a site in Morgantown, West Virgina. The town is most well known for West Virginia University, but also boasts a big-town feel in a small-town environment. Nestled into the rolling hills and mountains of Northern West Virginia, the region is known for its natural beauty. The town has received numerous awards from Forbes as a great small town for business and to build a family.
YouthWorks has the unique opportunity to work with the Habitat for Humanity of Mon County. Habitat reached out to us initially in the spring of 2014, inviting us to bring our volunteers to Morgantown to serve alongside them. They let us know that they have the work; they just need the hands to do it. In the spring of 2015, we began having conversation about what a partnership would look like as we finalized plans to bring YouthWorks to Northern West Virginia.
While YouthWorks has worked with Habitat in many of our communities, what makes Morgantown unique is that all of our service will be routed through Habitat for Humanity. We’ll be doing labor-intensive construction at their discretion.
This is largely a new opportunity for YouthWorks and one that we are very excited about. We want to provide meaningful service opportunities for every participant that comes on our trips, and we know that sometimes involves hands-on, heavy-duty projects.
Rather than rushing in, we want to have an invitation into a community – we want to be welcomed and invited by churches, ministries or organizations that are already doing good work that we can come alongside. In this partnership, we aren’t just consulting the community on how to best serve them, we are genuinely letting them lead us. It’s a beautiful example of service and ministry through short-term missions.
And so we are thrilled about new service opportunities and new partnerships; we’re looking forward to Morgantown. We hope you are too!
