Team Building Ideas

SPEED NAME game: Have everyone stand in a large circle. Ask each person to go around and say their name as fast as they can; time the group as they go. The first round will be more of a practice, but do it again so they have a chance to beat their first time. On the third round, up the ante by having them say the name of the person who went before them plus their own name. (The person who goes first will only say his or her name.) Again, they will get better with practice. After you are done point out the importance of communication and staying in the game so you know what’s going on.

ALUMNI game: Have a student who has gone on a mission trip or to a camp before teach everyone a game that they learned on their trip or at their camp. If there is time give a few students the opportunity to lead games.

ORDER game: Get in order from shortest to tallest without speaking, or get in order from youngest to oldest, again, without speaking. After playing, ask them to tell you what they learned about each other through the exercise.

PUZZLE: If you have a smaller group or break your team into small groups, doing a short puzzle together will help the group identify each other’s strengths and work hard together. Time the group to see how efficiently they can operate (plus, timing will keep motivation up). Make sure that each person participates in the exercise to exhibit how each plays a role.
