All year we get the opportunity to work alongside some pretty incredible organizations in communities across the county. As you celebrate this Christmas, consider how you will give generously to organizations that help people in need year round. Q. What do they do? Who do they serve?

Community Crossing is a non-profit ministry serving McDowell County, WV. At their core, their ministries all focus on “eliminating the curse of absent fathers now and in the future.” They accomplish this in a variety of ways by working with parents, children and families in McDowell County through a Parents as Teachers program, thrift store, diaper bank and community recreation center.

 

Q. How long has YouthWorks been partnering with them?

Community Crossing is our housing partner in McDowell County. We’ve been partnering with them since 2013. Jay, their executive director, has been an advocate for YouthWorks and has an insight into both short-term missions and McDowell County that has been invaluable to our service in the county.

 

Q. Anything else we should know about this partner?

Most recently Community Crossing has launched the Mac Center – a low-cost recreation center that is dedicated to providing the youth of McDowell County an organization which instills sportsmanship, physical and mental conditioning, spiritual and emotional health, as well as building long-lasting friendships. They aim to change lives through the structure and discipline of sport activities. The Mac Center has three different sports clubs – Karate, Boxing and Basketball.

 

Q. Where should donations be directed?

Community Crossing is actively soliciting donations for the Mac Center to continue to fund renovations to their gymnasium, a new heating system in their building, and for equipment for boxing and karate.
