Meet the Recruiting Team!

Every summer we hire some of the greatest staff on the planet. Our staff literally give life to all the preparation and planning that goes into the months before the summer. Behind all these great staff is a great recruiting team. Today we want to take a moment and introduce you to the fine folks that hunt our staff down year after year.

Recruiting Team

The recruiting team is comprised of 9 staff; 8 recruiters and the Director of Recruiting, Mayme Simms.  As a team we recruit, interview, hire and place the 300+ staff needed for a YouthWorks summer.  It’s a huge job and one that is filled with constant prayer, a lot of help from Alumni staff and fortunately, a good deal of fun.  In order to find all of these staff we come up with the most creative ideas we can on getting the word out about our summer positions. Primarily, getting the word out is accomplished through three avenues:

  1. Alumni Staff – we know as a team that we are not our own best recruiters, actually our alumni staff are the best recruiters we have. Year after year we rely on them to share their story of what a YouthWorks staff position meant to them so that others may join us in the future.
  2. Traveling – Most of our team travels for several weeks in the fall and early spring visiting college campuses, job fairs and conferences, meeting potential staff and connecting with our Alumni staff.
  3. Advertising and other means – We post our positions on college job boards, Facebook and other avenues in order to reach people who wouldn’t otherwise hear about the amazing opportunity to work on staff.

We do all this work because our summer staff play a crucial role in the YouthWorks experience.  Hiring the best staff possible is vital to the ministry and we take that responsibility very seriously.  Our positions are fairly competitive because of a large candidate pool, and we hire to create great teams who will love and serve our communities and participants well.

While our staff truly is of a great benefit to YouthWorks at the same time, YouthWorks is also a great benefit to them.  Each of us on the recruiting team personally knows how valuable the summer staff experience can be.  Between our team of 9 recruiters we have over 40 summers of Youth Works staff experience. We have served in every region and position from utility staff to Area Directors.  We each have a reason why we did YouthWorks in the first place and why we come back, year after year.  We know what it means to give up summers of laying on the beach and hanging out with friends in order to sleep on the floor of a church and serve a community we’ve never been to with a bunch of teenagers we’ve never met.  We know that outside of these roles there are few places in life where you can learn so much about who you are in Christ and that this experience is too valuable not to invite others into.

This year as we strive to share the story of what a YouthWorks staff position means we have focused on the phrase “Do Something. Do YouthWorks.”  Our hope is that we can hear the many stories of our alumni as they fill in the blank of what their YouthWorks summer meant to them.

Do something incredible for God. Do YouthWorks.

Do something life-changing.  Do YouthWorks.

Do something fun. Do YouthWorks.

Do something remarkable for the Church.  Do Youthworks.

We can’t wait for the summer of 2014 when those 300+ new staff experience what we know will be incredible, life-changing, fun and remarkable, as they become the newest members of the YouthWorks family.
