Ephraim’s Place & Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene
All year we get the opportunity to work alongside some pretty incredible organizations in communities across the county. As you celebrate this Christmas, consider how you will give generously to organizations that help people in need year round. All week check out some of the organizations we’re thankful for on the YouthWorks blog.
Name of community partner:
Ephraim’s Place & Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene
Q. What do they do? Who do they serve?
The Refresh Program is just one aspect of the church’s ministry to their community, Ephraim’s Place. Refresh connects neighbors with each other and with members of the church as well as local volunteers with the aim of helping build needs awareness. The church works to create a needs assessment in specific communities surrounding the church or in a city by going door-to-door and listening to their community. They seek to utilize funds and supplies donated by various organizations and the church to refresh the homes of residents. They are invited into people’s homes to sit with them, learn from them and fellowship while working on minor home repair or painting projects. The focus here is not on the amount of work that gets done but the quality of relationships that can be built. Each neighbor begins to see their own gifts as assets that can be used to bless others and form a greater sense of community.
Q. How long has YouthWorks been partnering with them?
YouthWorks has been partnering with them for seven summers, specifically helping with their painting and home repair projects in various neighborhoods throughout the Toronto area.
Q. Anything else we should know about this partner?
Their church is made up of several denominations which have come together to form one body. Pastor Bill opens up his church to multiple smaller churches, allowing them to use the space for worship or activities. The doors of the church are always open and welcoming to anyone in need. Bill is a man who embodies servant leadership as he guides and encourages his congregation, friends and YouthWorks to understand how meaningful it is to give of yourself and your time. The church will be hosting YouthWorks in 2016.
