Children’s Mission

All year we get the opportunity to work alongside some pretty incredible organizations in communities across the county. As you celebrate this Christmas, consider how you will give generously to organizations that help people in need year round. All week check out some of the organizations we’re thankful for on the YouthWorks blog.

Name of community partner:

Children’s Mission

Q. What do they do? Who do they serve?

Children’s Missions provides summer school tutoring for students Pre-K through High School. Gives them the opportunity to receive additional academic support, constructive discipline, mentoring, biblical learning, and a safe and healthy environment. Camp usually is structured for tutoring/academics in the morning with more elective activities in the afternoon. They also feed the materially poor and offer spiritual support.

Q. How long has YouthWorks been partnering with them?

Philadelphia faces many injustices within the school system; in fact only 50% of high school seniors graduate. In hopes to turn this rate around and improve academics Melanie extends an offer to YouthWorks to join Children’s Mission’s effort to make an impact in the lives of youth through providing tutoring programs, recreational opportunities, and developmental support. Children’s Mission is a great way for our participants to see how fortunate we are to have the education we have today and give back to students who suffer from injustices within their own schooling system. We have been serving there since 2014.

Q. Anything else we should know about this partner?

Melanie is an amazing woman. She is passionate about providing holistic services to the community, but also her passion for students’ academic success is evident. Every time youth work there they come back wanting more time there. She has invested many years of education and degree-seeking into pouring into the lives of disadvantaged youth. She also provides pastoral care and support through the church she leads at the center. In addition to serving youth and church members, she also feeds the community weekly. It would be a huge blessings to give her a love offering as a way of saying that God honors her faithfulness and dedication.
