“What I do with a free space?”

 

 

Hold an Election

It’s election day and you could hold an election at your youth group. Have students nominate a student who has not signed up for the trip but who the students want to come along. This could be someone from your church or from outside of your youth group. When the votes are counted let the winner know that you are inviting them on the mission trip and that they can come for free. Let them know that the youth group chose them and communicate how much they are wanted on the trip. If voting doesn’t seem right for your group, simply have a discussion with the group about who could benefit most from coming.

Sign-up Incentive

Create an incentive for signing up for the mission trip on time. Divide the discount between students who sign up by the posted deadline. So if you get $279 off your trip and 10 students sign up by the deadline, each will need get $27.90 toward their fundraising efforts.

Plan Something Extra

Have everyone fundraise the same amount, but use the extra money to do a little something extra on the trip. That might mean dinner at a restaurant, stopping at a roadside attraction or ice cream during the trip. Be creative in how you share this extra treat.

Bless an Adult Leader

Taking time to be an adult leader on a mission trip isn’t always easy. If you don’t have money in your budget to support the adult leader(s) going on your trip, consider putting the money saved from getting a free spot toward their mission trip total.

Give the Money Away

Instead of using the free space you could give the money back to the community you are serving in for your mission trip. You would do this by raising the same amount of money for the trip and then taking the extra money with you. During your trip have the students decide how they want to give away the money in the community. Before you leave for your trip you could also do a matching campaign in your church by asking your church to match the amount of the free space to be able to give away more money in the community.
