Benton Harbor, MI

Help youth understand racial injustice and join community leaders seeking to revitalize their city.

About Benton Harbor

During a week in Benton Harbor, your group will partner with local organizations to serve the city’s youngest and oldest residents. You’ll also assist with yard work and paint homes. In the evenings, your group will tour the community and learn about the fine arts revitalization in Benton Harbor from a community friend. Experience local BBQ, visit a Lake Michigan beach, and explore Benton Harbor’s sister city, St. Joseph. YouthWorks has partnered with this community since 2000.

Serving in Benton Harbor

  • Partner with local organizations to meet ongoing needs in the community.
  • Serve through painting, cleaning, helping with yard work or doing other simple work projects

During the week, students may serve at one or more of the service options.
  • Note that one of our service partners who works with children typically does not start their summer programming until the third week of June.

Did you know?

Benton Harbor is a “twin city” to St. Joseph. The racially and economically disparate towns are divided by the St. Joseph River.

We teenagers + We communities

Teenagers need to encounter Jesus outside their normal context to deepen their faith and broaden their perspectives. Plus, communities need to be valued—not as mere recipients but as partners who have stories worth sharing in.

When we bring the two together, incredible things happen.
