Reflections on the Life of Pope Francis

Pope Francis washing feet

A powerful part of the YouthWorks’ experience is serving others with Jesus followers from across multiple denominations, backgrounds, and cultures. We find encouragement to live out our faith as we lock arms together.

Every weekend you can find the YouthWorks staff members worshiping in different kinds of churches. From Catholic, Lutheran, non-denominational, Baptist, and more.

This week we want to honor the life of Pope Francis and consider what his example of serving others can teach us.

Pope Francis quote

As I reflect on the passing of Pope Francis, I am reminded of the enduring power of empathy, compassion, justice, and unity.

Pope Francis humbled himself to serve the least among us—washing the feet of the poor, the marginalized, and the imprisoned. He embodied what it means to live like Jesus, showing us that true discipleship is found in how we love and serve others.

He reminded us that to be Christian is to welcome the stranger, care for the refugee, and build bridges across the divides that separate us.

As he once said, “To love God and neighbor is not something abstract, but profoundly concrete: it means seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely.”

His pursuit of justice has left an impact. As I work to honor his memory, I do so by striving to champion a Church—and a world—rooted in love, compassion, and peace.
