Spend one or more days in the Portland serving neighbors experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and the ongoing effects of poverty. Through hands-on support and community-based service, participants will help meet practical needs while building meaningful connections across the community.

Overview

In Portland, your group will experience the city’s rich history and vibrant culture while serving alongside local organizations that are addressing real needs in the community. Service opportunities may include relational ministry with the elderly, hands-on projects, and support for organizations working to respond to housing challenges, food insecurity, and other social issues. During free time, your group can explore the beauty and character of the area by visiting Multnomah Falls, taking a refreshing break at Cannon Beach, or strolling through historic Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Participants may serve all or part of their trip assisting at a food pantry or distribution center, serving meals to Portland residents, having fun with the elderly at a senior center or help build tiny homes for the homless.

Due to high traffic congestion in Portland, your group can expect to experience long drive times to some service sites, shower locations, or Community Activities.

While 12-passenger vans are permitted at this site, 7-passenger minivans will make driving and parking significantly easier. 15-passenger vans are highly discouraged and will have limited parking options throughout the city limits.

Groups should plan on finding street parking at some service sites and be prepared to pay for parking when exploring the Portland community.
