Overview
Fort Worth, Texas, known for its historic Stockyards, world-class museums, and vibrant festivals, is a city that celebrates both tradition and innovation. As the 11th largest city in the United States and a part of the 4th most populated region in the nation (Dallas/Fort Worth) the city offers a unique opportunity to engage with a rich cultural tapestry while also witnessing the realities faced by many of its residents.
Despite its growth and prosperity in certain areas, Fort Worth faces significant challenges with food insecurity. Texas leads the nation with 1 in 6 residents facing hunger and more than 170,000 people in Fort Worth struggle to put food on their table. Many families and individuals, particularly in underserved neighborhoods, lack consistent access to affordable, nutritious food. Local food banks, community organizations, and churches work tirelessly to meet these needs, but the demand remains high. By participating in a service-learning trip to Fort Worth, you’ll learn the dynamics of food insecurity and the various ways it’s being addressed, reflect on how the faith connects to hunger, and make a tangible difference in the lives of residence.
