About the Osage Nation

The small town of Pawhuska is the tribal headquarters of the Osage Nation, and YouthWorks partners with local pastors and community leaders to determine how we can best serve this unique community. Though Pawhuska may appear to be like other small towns, the story of this community contains a deep, difficult history of the relationship between Native and non-Native people that continues to impact the realities of this town. Service opportunities in Pawhuska include painting and minor work projects, assisting the town’s soup kitchen and food pantry, and supporting summer kid’s programs. In the evenings you’ll have the opportunity to go on a tour of the town with a community member, visit historical museums, worship at a local church service, and host a community cookout. YouthWorks has partnered with this community since 2005.

  • Begin the week with an interactive experience learning about the Native culture.
  • During the week, students may serve at one or more of the service opportunities.

Quote

“The Catholic Soup Kitchen has been open for 10 years and I’ve been here since it started. I’m 87 years old, and I help out 2-3 days a week here and at Meals on Wheels. It’s great having new groups from YouthWorks each week, and we really appreciate their help every day.”

We teenagers + We communities

Teenagers need to encounter Jesus outside their normal context to deepen their faith and broaden their perspectives. Plus, communities need to be valued—not as mere recipients but as partners who have stories worth sharing in.

When we bring the two together, incredible things happen.
