In Alamosa, you’ll experience the beauty of the mountains but also learn about the struggle of rural life in Southern Colorado. With one of the worst unemployment rates in Colorado, rural poverty is felt throughout the San Luis Valley. Your group will come alongside existing organizations to meet on-going needs, including working in gardens to meet food needs, doing home repair projects, and running a kids club for elementary-aged kids in this community. During the evenings, you’ll learn more from a community speaker about what the community is doing to serve the under-served, explore the natural beauty of this area, and visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park. YouthWorks partnered with this community for a few years in the mid 2000s and returned starting in summer 2021.
