A Riddle about Difference
Here’s a riddle: What’s the difference between 52 minutes and 49 minutes?
Hint: It’s not 3 minutes….
So I flew in last week to San Francisco, but it feels like I’ve spent a long time here. I’ve learned so much, and it’s only been a week. I’m fairly sure 9 weeks from now I’ll be a completely different person.
What’s possibly rocked me the most is the conversations I’ve had with my team this past week. Each night this week, one at a time, we’ve shared our stories. When you really listen to someone’s story you will find two things: instances in which you understand completely, and instances in which you can’t even begin to relate. We’ve told stories of heartbreak, we’ve told stories of happiness, and we’ve told stories of how Jesus has used it all to change us. Yeah, we’re all different, but Jesus is working through us.
I also get the privilege of meeting with service partners all across the city of San Francisco to set up service days through the summer. I’ve met some amazing people who get leadership and understand serving other people. It’s been incredible. As I drove back on one day, I looked across all the pastel colored houses and realized that this was my drive home from work for the Summer. Phew! What a blessing!
God has blessed me with a crazy team of people who love Jesus. Different, yes. People I love to be around, yes. The funny thing about differences is that they’re awesome if you learn from them. As for the difference between 52 minutes and 49 minutes, well, it’s a $72 parking ticket…
